XsitePro II versus Firepow

“What is the difference between XSitePro II and Firepow web software?” “And, Which is the better one?” A fellow attendee at SES NY posed these questions, which I thought was interesting, since the conference was about blogs and blogging and not website development and related software. Although there were various discussions and presentations that touched on them.

I use both, although Firepow is relatively new and XSitePro has been around for some time, I am familiar with the inner workings of both. I thought that there may be other people that are wondering the same thing and decided to write this post explaining the differences.

So, here’s a brief explanation of the differences.

XSitePro II

XSP and its successor XSP II are designed specifically for the online marketer. Of course, anyone that wants to create a website can use it whether they market online or not. It’s a WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get) HTML editor. It comes with hundreds of templates that you customize. It can accommodate PHP, iFrames and Flash scripts. Many of the features are automated or as automated as possible. For example, adding an email subscription box for an autoresponder, adding pop-up or pop under boxes, including social bookmarking apps on pages, and adding a RSS feed.

There are hundreds of features to XSP II. Too many to cover in this post. In my humble opinion, it is the best web development software available for online marketing and you don’t need to know a lick of code. It is not, however, a blogging platform, an affiliate management program, a customer management system or a membership site platform. These all require a database to be integrated into their site. Although this is possible with XSP II it takes some expertise and time to get it going.

XSitePro II is principally for non-blogging sites where you want a high-powered content and landing page, a squeeze page, one time offer (OTO) pages, up or down sell pages for products. It’s easy to maintain and add pages and products including affiliate products you sell. There is an easy to use redirect system built-in to cloak your affiliate ID. You can design your own templates, import templates or use the ones included as is or customize them.

Firepow

Firepow is an optimized Wordpress blogging platform. Although it is used with both static and dynamic post pages, its primary function is to blog. The use of plugins greatly extends the capabilities of Wordpress. Firepow comes with fifty of the top plugins installed. This saves you having to find the right plugins that work and trying to make them work by customizing the CSS or PHP files, in some cases.

Firepow makes it easy to customize your site theme without having to tinker with any coding or upload custom themes via FTP . One of the drawbacks to the standard Wordpress installation is every site looks the same. There are a huge number of free and buy templates you can get. However, you have to upload and install them yourself.

It also incorporates easy inclusion of videos, photos and trackbacks. It includes Google Analytics, split-testing for pages and automatic site map generation and a ton of other features.

Conclusion

As you can tell I’m a big fan of both XSitePro II and Firepow. I use both and I’m an affiliate for both.

The downside is they are not free. You can get the basic Wordpress software for nothing as it is an open source program. XSitePro has always been a “pay for” program just like Dreamweaver and Frontpage, but much more powerful.
