SEO for Blogs
Yesterday, Michael Gray, Owner of Atlas Web Service, presented the following hints and tips to improving the SEO value of your blog.
1. Don’t write blog titles that suck
Bad titles lack keyword focus, they are often clever or amusing and therefore not intuitive to a reader or search engine.
Great post titles include keywords and are focused on topics covered within the post.
2. Partial RSS feeds are like being half dressed at a party
Why do you want to use full RSS feeds? Full feeds allow you to benefit from web scrapers and build links for you. Make sure you put keyword optimized hyperlinks within your post, especially to those pages that are difficult getting links.
3. Build domain authority with a blog
Put your blog on a sub-domain or sub-folder on your static domain, you are able to consolidate Link equity. The static site and the blog need to be topic related. It’s probably not smart to add a blog about baby names to a static site about customizing a ’57 Chevy.
4. Stand out and be link worthy
Don’t blog for the sake of blogging. Have a purpose.
Blog at a pace that allows you to be extraordinary. The longer the time between posts, the more extraordinary you need to be.
Stand for something! Give an opinion, be controversial, be serious, be funny, be politically incorrect, be a jackass – be something. How does that CW song go? You’ve got to stand for something or you’ll fall for anything – Aaron Tippin 1991
5. Just because you blog, doesn’t mean they will visit
Michael stated “That great writing without shameless self-promotion is like locking Shakespeare in your basement. 
Leverage your network, before and after the post goes live, to help promote your content. Make sure people know who you are. Connect with other influential bloggers. Start by linking to and/or commenting on their blog.

I think the first point is very important. Know how to proper Title your post, both for visitors and for search engines.
Great ideas on SEO for blog. People assume that by creating a blog people will visit…simply not ture!

Thanks Richard, I appreciate the support. I’m always amazed how newbies believe that all you have to do is put up a blog or website and people will come. It definitely is not the “Field of Dreams”. Hard work and long hours seem to be the relevant ingredients.

The benefits of showing your full RSS feed vs a partial are debatable. When you show your full feed and get scraped, you’re running 2 risks, really.
1) You get fully scraped and marked as the duplicate content while a scraper gets marked as the original.
2) Your visitors might not bother coming to your site for more content, since they can just read it all through your feed.

There are definitely pros and cons to both methods. I’ll say though if your content is going to be scraped it is going to happen no matter what. No doubt sending directly to a scraper in a RSS feed makes it easier for them.

You should absolutely install the SEO plugin: All in one SEO, so that preserves the boldness of speaking URLs instead of some characters with numbers.
I’ve switched to Platinum SEO plugin as it is much easier to use and performs better the All In One SEO. But, you need to use one or the other to correct some of the bad SEO features that WP has such as page URLs.
