If you like to write and want to maximize the earning power of your writing, consider offering PLR packages. You can make a tidy profit by offering your articles, eBooks and reports to the hungry Internet marketing masses. Besides creating the actual PLR content, you’ll also need to set up a simple website to sell your packages. Your customers should be able to download your packages immediately after payment.

You can automate the process by using a program like DigiVendor. The added benefit of using DigiVendor is that your download links are hidden. Once a person purchases your package, they have a certain number of allowable times to download. You set the number of downloads. After that, access to your product is closed. This prevents shady buyers from distributing your download link to other people, who can then download your package for free. Protect yourself and your content!
There are a few other considerations to opening your own PLR site. Limiting distribution of your packages is a big decision to make. You can stop sales of a package after they reach 50, 100 or 500 downloads – whatever number you decide. There are two schools of thought on offering packages in limited distribution. Some PLR providers limit the purchases to a certain number of buyers, and some don’t. Many marketers see value in buying exclusive packages, and won’t buy if there aren’t any limits. However, as a writer, it’s more valuable to you to offer unlimited sales of each package. You can start a membership site or you can offer packages in an “a la carte” style.

With a membership site, you promise a certain number of articles or products per month. Your members are charged a flat rate on a monthly basis. This can be a great source of guaranteed monthly income, but you are also committed to writing several batches of articles per month no matter what. An “a la carte” type of PLR site offers packages that can be bought one at a time. Your customers pick and choose what packages they’d like. You are free to update the site whenever you wish and add as many or as few packages as you like.

You don’t have the guaranteed income per month, but this option is more flexible for you and the buyer. You’ll also need to decide whether you will be offering PLR in one niche topic or packages for many different niches. Niche sites can have more targeted marketing. You can offer specific packages each month or week that speak to the needs of the niche. But you are also limiting your potential buyers. Not everyone is interested in every niche. Having a broad PLR site means that you can offer packages in all niches. You’ll definitely be casting your net wider, and you can serve the needs of more people. However, you’ll be in competition with other broad PLR sites, and finding the right topics for your packages can be hit or miss.

No matter what kind of site you decide to open, you’ll need an opt-in option for your visitors. Visitors will use this form to request topics they’d like to see on your site. They’ll be automatically added to your e-mail list. Here’s an example of how you can do it:

You can use this list to notify customers of new packages on your site and to offer them tips for using PLR to their advantage. This will keep your site fresh in their minds and keep them coming back for more!
Pricing is another major decision to make. You’ll want to set firm prices for your article packages, eBooks and other products you’ll be offering. Buyers expect to pay $1 to $2 per page for 400 to 600 words of content.
Scout out the competition, especially if you’re in a niche market, and set your prices accordingly. Remember, you can charge more if you offer quality content or added bonuses like graphics and sales pages.

When you open a PLR site, you have to deliver on your promises. If you say you’re going to target the gardening niche, don’t offer packages on baby care. If you’re running a membership site and promise 2 eBooks per month, you’d better deliver those eBooks on time. Don’t burn bridges with customers. Decide just how much you can offer, and then make your promises accordingly.

When people search on the Internet they’re looking for one thing… information! Your job as a website owner is to provide them with the information they’re looking for. There’s a saying in Internet Marketing that “content is king” and time and time again, you’ll realize that this is true. The quality and focus of your content will have a direct effect on the success of your online efforts. Good content will draw in traffic from search engines and make your site a valuable place for visitors. The more content you have, the higher your site will rank on search results. That will lead to more visitors, which will give you more opportunities to hyperlink to sales sites.

When you use content correctly, you’ll be able to directly influence the amount and quality of your sales. The question then becomes “Where do I get good content?” This is especially important if you don’t consider yourself a writer, or if you don’t have the time to write content for yourself. Fortunately, there’s a special brand of content out there that makes your job a whole lot easier.

What Are Private Label Rights?

Private Label Rights (or PLR) refer to content that has special privileges attached. If the content you purchase has PLR rights, you can alter it to suit your needs. You can make changes to the text, add your name as the author and distribute it anywhere you like.

Just like ghostwritten content, PLR content is written by somebody else. The major difference, though, is that the PLR provider will be selling the same content package to many different people. There are many different types of PLR content available. Many writers offer PLR article packages. These packages typically come with 10 to 30 articles around a topic and can vary in length from 300 words to 800 words each.

You can also buy full-length eBooks, short reports and autoresponder courses with private label rights. Some PLR providers include graphics and sales pages with their PLR packages. The key thing to know is that PLR content requires some altering. They aren’t meant to be used “as is.” Remember, your content package is in the hands of several, if not hundreds, of other marketers. You need to make some changes to make it stand out.

A good rule of thumb is to edit your PLR content by at least 25-40%. The main changes you’ll make will be to the title, introduction and conclusion. You can also change the keywords throughout the piece to make them fit your website and niche better. Another great way to change your PLR content is to change the way it’s used. If you bought an article package, try splitting up the articles in an autoresponder course or linking them together to create an eBook.

A lot of PLR purchasers are lazy, and they just try to use the content as is. This means by making just a few changes to your purchases, you can really stand out in your niche and make the most of your investment. My favorite PLR content source is Extreme PLR Makeover because all the tools you need to change the articles are provided right on the site. You don’t need to have or get software to create a pdf document. Make the changes you want and click create pdf and you’re done. Very easy and simple.

As companies continue to layoff or shutdown altogether there has been a rapid rise of Internet Marketing Newbies looking for the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. I welcome them and wish them great success and I wanted to give them a little advice from my four years as an internet marketer.

When I first decide to do some marketing on the internet I was working full-time in my off-line business that I had for 15 years. So, I didn’t have a lot to lose if the internet marketing thing didn’t work out. I made a ton of mistakes the first year or so. I bought into every program launched by a well known guru. I went from one strategy and program to the next, to the next, and on and on until I had worked through 17 programs. I had basically decided that there just wasn’t that much of an opportunity to make enough money to live on from internet marketing. So I decided to…

focus on one thing and see if I could make it work.

In talking with other internet marketers on forums and at conferences I discovered my experience was anything but unique. In fact, a majority of them had gone through the same cycle. I did learn quite a bit from the different programs I had bought. I can’t say they are completely worthless or are total scams. I beleive your expectations have to be realistic. I read somewhere that about 5% of internet marketers are successful. I don’t remember where I read it, but at the time I thought “that depends on how you define success”. Success can be only determined by the individual based on that person’s goals.

Internet Marketing for Newbies Guide

1. You need a hungry market and you need to give them what they want! This is rule #1. Don’t pay attention to everything the gurus say. Take the good advice and leave the rest along the roadside.
2. Don’t rely exclusively on keyword and traffic research programs. They are valuable to a degree, but you need to go to forums and discussion groups to see what people are talking about and asking for. Use Amazon’s Bestsellers resource, eBay Pop and eBay Pulse, Google Zeitgeist, Trend Central and other internet marketing trend reports.
3. Find and stick with one method until you reach your goal. Be sure you have set a time limit to reach the goal. Don’t play hopscotch with different marketing methods. Once you accomplish one then you can move onto another.
4. Always put the customer first. They will take care of you if you take care of them.
5. Be prepared to work 8 to 10 hours, at least, everyday. You must treat your endeavor as a business. Just because you are doing it at home doesn’t change the dynamics of business.
6. Learn from failure. Don’t keep doing what doesn’t work. Move on to something else.
7. Have the courage to make your own plans, stick to them and see how they work, develop your own theories and try things out for yourself. Remember that the lessons you get from failure are huge and important, so don’t be afraid of it.
8. Use your common sense. It doesn’t matter how great your new book is, The Amish Guide To Computer Repair, probably isn’t going to make you a living.

What is Web 2.0?

This is a term coined a few years ago to describe the “new” interactive internet. Evolving web technologies allow people to get more involved with websites — gone are the days when all you could do on the internet is read content, now you can watch videos, play games, join communities, take polls, vote on content, post comments, etc. We’ve gone from being talked at to being talked with.

From an internet marketing perspective, this is great. There are a huge number of web 2.0 sites out there, all begging people to get involved with them. What this means is that getting backlinks to your site is no problem whatsoever anymore. In the past you had to worry about contacting other website owners, sending out hundreds of emails, arranging reciprocal links…. these days you don’t have to worry about that at all. There are hundreds of resources out there that will put your link onto authority sites that the search engines just love. What’s better — as you add new content to these sites the search engines are extremely quick to jump on it, so you get traffic from both people AND the search engines.

How does this work?

The biggest tool at your disposal is the RSS feed.

Cheap Email Autoresponder

RSS is a type of language that formats your website content in a standard way so that RSS readers can understand your content. When you go to a blog or any number of other sites you’ll often see an orange block in the address bar, or somewhere else on the page. That’s the RSS icon. If you click on this it will bring up the RSS feed. Sometimes there will be rectangular button labeled “Subscribe” that works the same way.

Where it’s useful for us is that a lot of these “web 2.0″ sites allow you to both create RSS feeds and add content to their networks using RSS feeds. They translate your feed into standard HTML so that it can be published as content on a website. Every time you post a new article on a site that has an RSS feed it will automatically update the RSS feed and consequently any site that is using that RSS feed, so by updating one site you can effectively be updating many. Not only that, but each update will also provide a link back to the original source for the RSS feed. You can essentially build a chain or network of sites and links that ends up pointing back to your main website, and thereby explode your traffic through the backlinks.

The way to do it is to take a systematic approach. Take a good, high-quality article that links to your main affiliate site on your important keywords, then go to Hubpages, for example, and build yourself a great Hubpage on this site. The article should also focus on your keywords, ie “Cheap Email Autoresponder”.

Hubpages will create an RSS feed using this content.

Then you go to Squidoo and build a lens called “Using An Email Autorespnder” or whatever tickles your fancy. Again focusing on your keywords. Squidoo allows you to enter an RSS feed, so take your Hubpages RSS feed and put that into Squidoo. At this point you will want to add a short article (200-300 words) or at least a brief summary to the Squidoo page.

Now you have a Squidoo lens that links to your Hubpage which links to your Cheap Email Autoresponder affiliate site. Squidoo also creates an RSS feed from your content (which now includes your Hubpages content and the extra article or summary you added to the Squidoo lens) so you take this RSS feed and insert it into a Blogger blog, or some other site. Again you would add an extra article or summary at this point, so now you have your original article, your Squidoo article or summary and your Blogger article or summary, and it all points back to your original GetResponse Autoresponder affiliate site.

I don’t want this to sound like a “recipe” as such… you should use different sites and mix things up to see what works best.

• wordpress.com (although they’re VERY wary of anything that looks like it’s all marketing)

• twitter.com (for getting your new sites, posts, comments etc indexed in Google)
• goarticles.com

Tags

In addition to creating RSS feeds, a great feature about sites like Squidoo is that you can add “tags” (keywords) to your articles and entries. If you spend just a little time thinking about the tags you will use, you’ll be ahead of 90% of the crowd. The average Jane or Joe Public on Squidoo won’t put a lot of thought into the tags she/he uses for their article. They’ll usually  add one or two generic tags, which is, of course, what most everyone else does. They’ll all be competing for traffic and readers for these generic tags. However, when you add a more detailed three word keyword phrase as a tag, then you are more likely to find your article appearing higher in the search engines for that phrase.

For example, if you’ve tagged your Email Autoresponder review on Squidoo as “GetResponse Autoresponder Review”, your Squidoo lens might appear in Google as “GetResponse Autoresponder Review on Squidoo”. Often these phrases are searched for within the network itself as well.

The benefits of interacting with Web 2.0 sites

Another thing to think about when you’re playing on these sites is that frequently they’re “self sustaining” networks. They use their own algorithms to determine which sites to make more prominent in the network. Sometimes it comes down to how many back links you have, but a huge part of it is the more “internal” factors of the site.

Remember that these are social sites. Don’t just put up content and walk away… to get the most out of them you need to interact with the site. Comment on other pages, vote on other sites. For every action you do you get a link back to your page, and the system recognizes that you’re active on the site and favors you accordingly. Everything you do produces a benefit. Don’t lose sight of this fact.

This is how web 2.0 sites are inherently different from Web 1.0 sites. Try doing this with an article directory!

The new “mini-nets”

About five years ago Michael Campbell (I think!) write an eBook about creating “mininets” — a bunch of websites that would link to your affiliate page. The search engines would see this bunch of websites linking to you and would bump you up the search engines. Of course Google saw this happening and changed their algorithm to detect activity like this: Now they do things like checking IP addresses, domain names, domain registers etc to see if websites are connected in some way. They want to make sure that websites are being linked to from different places, not just from a bunch of websites owned by some guy named John in Seattle.

Web 2.0 takes over from the mininet concept. Instead of using your own websites you can take advantage of all these giant free websites out there.

Just to demonstrate how big these Web 2.0 sites are, for a very long time the top three sites in the world for traffic (according to Alexa, which is not 100% accurate but gives you a good idea) were Google, Yahoo and MSN. If you look at the Alexa rankings for the United States today, you’ll see that MSN has been bumped down the list, and the third most visited site is YouTube, followed by Facebook — all web 2.0 sites, all getting huge traffic. The difference is that while you have to fight your way tooth and nail to get into Google, with the web 2.0 sites all you have to do is register and submit your content. If it’s formatted correctly and focused right then you’ll start getting traffic immediately, and if you’re still focused on the search engines… they LOVE these sites!
