Press Releases-Are They Still Relevant?

This past week I have had two new clients asking for press releases optimized for the web. That got me to thinking about how long it had been since the last request to craft a press release. I went back and it been about 45 days.

I’m wondering if this sudden uptick is a result of the economy or if it is a fluke. Are companies grabbing for any straw to generate interest and sales? Or, have press releases suddenly become the latest fade, again?

So, here’s my questions:

Do you use press releases for your business?

If yes to the first question; When was the last time you issued one?

And, what was the topic of the press release (new product, promotion, new location, etc)?

Are press releases still a relevant media for communicating to the marketplace?

I have been using regular press releases for one of my sites. Mostly they are done to announce association with another online property or offline media business. I have seen that professional bloggers often pick these releases and talk about them on their blogs.

My husband just released a printed press release in a car magazine picturing his Tribute to Corvette Pace cars and we have been getting quite a few calls to purchase the color prints!

We will be developing a blog dedicated to his car art and plan to continue with printed and online press releases as new car art is made available.
